The MAM cone-shaped sharpening stone is a hand tool with a 5-1/8 in coarse stone that tapers to a point. The cone shape reaches into serrations, gut hooks, recurves and the inside curve of hooked blades. It also touches up axes, scissors and garden tools.
A round beechwood handle with a knob pommel gives a secure grip and good control. Draw the stone along the edge at a steady angle, working from the heel toward the tip. Rotate the cone to match the curve of serrations as you go.
The coarse grit sets a working edge fast on dull or damaged tools. Follow it with a finer stone or ceramic rod for a cleaner finish. It hangs on a pegboard or slips into a drawer or tool bag. Compare it with the rest of our sharpeners.
