The Spyderco Manbug Hawkbill Serrated Lockback (MBKHBS) puts a 1.84-inch fully serrated hawkbill blade on the tiny Manbug frame. A hawkbill curves down like a claw, so pulling the knife toward you draws cord, strapping, and line straight into the edge. That shape makes it hard for the material to slip off the end of the blade.
The edge uses SpyderEdge, Spyderco’s pattern of one large scallop followed by two small ones, which bites aggressively into fibrous material. The blade is VG-10 stainless, and the black FRN handle keeps weight to a minimum. A back lock holds the blade open while you pull through tough material.
It closes to about 2.5 inches and opens to 4.31, so it fits on a key ring through the lanyard hole. Anglers and boaters keep one handy for braided line, cable ties, and bait bag cords. Touch up the serrations with the corner of a triangular ceramic rod, one scallop at a time. The plain-edge Manbug and other lockbacks are in our lockback knives.
